The oldest "unrestored" 1903 INDIAN MOTORCYCLE was sold at auction at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Maryland Saturday, April 21, 2012, with a winning bid of 5000. Almost all-original, the 1.75-horsepower single-seater hasn't run in over 80 years, was one of only 3 built that year, and pre-dates the infamous Harley motorcycle Only a few Indians were built in 1902, the first year for Indian motorcycles, and they were reportedly disassembled to build the three built in 1903. Except for a few nuts and bolts used for repairs over the years, the bike was all original. The winning bidder was a phone bidder, according to Josh Ruby, an auctioneer for Wolfe Auctions, who handled the sale over 900 items from the Charlie Alder, Jr. estate. One of the most primitive motor vehicles still in existence, this bike is a glimpse back in time to the birth of the American motorcycle.indian motorcycle for sale
